Travel Tips for Long Bus Trips
What with fuel prices skyrocketing, it’s easy to see why public transportation is trending as a means of distance travelling recently. Some people have opted to travel cross-country via train, while others rent buses for them and their friends to take a trip upstate – either way, group travel is simply much less expensive and more organized. But have you ever spent several hours on a public or rental bus? If you’re not the one driving, it can get both uncomfortable and a bit boring, to say the least. For your upcoming trip, here are a few ways to make your lengthy travel more comfortable.
It seems like it would be obvious, but if you forget to bring entertainment on a long ride, you’re going to really regret it. A lot of bus rentals that are meant for a longer trip come with outlets, and sometimes even WiFi. This means you can often bring a laptop, tablet, or smartphone on which to browse the web or watch movies. Some people are content to simply have a music player, while others are able to read books during the commute. Figure out what will be able to keep you entertained for a long period of time and don’t forget to make sure it’s in your bag!
You never know if you’re going to be warm or cold during your travel, so it doesn’t hurt to wear a sweatshirt/jacket or bring one along just in case, and wear short sleeves underneath should it get warm. If you intend to sleep on the ride, you could also bring a throw blanket for added comfort.
Pick Up a Travel Pillow
Travel pillows are great for napping/sleeping – especially if you’re going to be driving overnight. They wrap around your neck as to stay in place and help to avoid waking up with a stiff neck from an awkward sleeping position. They’re only a few dollars at any department store, are small enough to fit in a backpack, and are a great investment.
As far as seating goes, you want to make sure you can get whatever type of seat you prefer – whether it be a window seat, or an aisle. Sitting where you’d like to sit makes the trip all the more comfortable for you.
